55 easy ways to pick a blog name that arouse curiosity.

How to pick the perfect Blog Name

It can be real hard to come up with a blog name that you love at first in fact, when I first launch my first blog in 2017 I tried to scribble down all my blog name ideas and as you might have guessed I jotted down several words and phrases to help me narrow down what will be my super memorable blog name, and it took me almost 3weeks before coming up with my first blog name which now doesn’t exist anymore…

And honestly, after getting much more familiar about how the blogging industry works I learnt that it was a complete waste of time!

Hence, the reason I make this post to make you come up with a blog name (2X faster than I did).

So you can launch you blog, not after wasting your time trying to figure out what to call it.

What I will be covering in this Post.

What’s the big deal about picking a good blog name?
What makes a good Blog Name?
What to avoid when choosing your blog name?
What to do if you are having a hard time picking a blog name?

What’s the big deal about picking a good blog name?

It changes the way the world perceive you, I mean people make snap decisions and if your blog name doesn’t sound professional they will guess your blog isn’t either.

It might be shocking and somewhat surprising to know that it makes an impact on your blog success because if you don’t like the name or wasn’t sure of it from the start you might not try and put your all into it which will result to either quitting long before the journey starts.

It gives people expectations of what the rest of your blog will be like for example if your blog name is ‘relaxing and calming’ (definitely not a good name but just had to made that up for an example) your blog should always be calming and relaxing to your target audience, use colors that are calming like blue, pink, green or white and avoid writing in an energetic tone or using harsh words definitely not calm!.

It can be a lot of hassle to switch later on, without losing some of your audience and of course hurting your search engine rankings that is why it is crucial to choose a name that you love from the start.

What makes a good Blog Name?

Easy to pronounce

You really want to make your blog name as easy to pronounce as possible so that when someone leaves your blog you can be sure they will remember what is called later so that they will come back to it.

Easy to spell

This one is similar to the first one because after remembering what your blog is called they need to get their hands on what they should type in the search box for example flickr.com is an image hosting service (I bet they are on drugs when they registered this domain) when someone tells you to find flickr.com on the internet the first thing you are going to type is flicker.com because that’s what the pronunciation will sounds like,  and because of that confusion they create around their potential audience they had to register another domain with the correct pronunciation and Redirect it to their original website so whenever you type flicker.com it will take you to their original website flikr.com.

Make sure it’s unique.

You should do whatever you can to make your blog name stand out because just by hearing a word can make you think of a certain brand for example google or amazon are top brands that are recognize all over the world, so if you try to call your blog google or amazon it won’t do you any good because it will be really hard or even impossible to build a strong brand and make people to stop thinking about the actual google or amazon.

Relevant to the content of your blog.

It always good to keep your blog focused on one direction for example if you called your blog ‘the massage therapist’ it should always be about massage and massage related topics don’t go writing about work outs and yoga because your audience will want a massage not yoga.

Make sure it has a meaning.

Let say for some reason someone just ask you ‘How did you come up with your Blog name?’ you are damn going to need to answer that question or you will seem a bit inconsiderate.

For example this blog ‘Your Creative Hike’ I created this Blog so that it will be writing about making money online through blogging, the word creative for finding that creative part of you and the word your because the blog revolves around you finding your creativity the focus is you the audience.

What to avoid when choosing your blog name?

You should always avoid:

Long chunk of words it won’t be either catchy or memorable,

It's with no doubt that shorter domain is easier to type and remember, shorter domain name help your blog stand out because there is less to read.

Want to know what's the longest domain name is?

Here it is:

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.co.uk

And yes it's a real domain name

Unless you are some kind of wizard you most likely won’t remember this.

Keep your blog name simple and straight to the point, the blog name length to have is between 8-16 characters this blog name is 16 characters, perfect!

What to do if you are having a hard time picking a blog name?

Now I will walk you through the exact steps I follow to come up with my blog name that I love.

Using word Combiner

word combiner

When I was narrowing down the idea for this blog name and got to the point where I can no longer go forward I fire up my laptop and to Google I land, I started searching for words that may or may not give ,me the inspiration I need until I stumble across a website called word scrambler, and what it does is it allows you to input four words in the text box provided and the moment you hit generate words it will generate multiple random version of the words you provided so you can choose the ones that you feel comfortable (but note that despite the random words that it will generate it will not bring the best version of what you are looking for instead use it as an inspiration) for Example when I type the words ‘life’ and ‘transformation’,

word combiner example

I got a bunch of words including ‘lifeon’ which I think can be really good for a lifestyle blog , for the simple reason that it’s short and not that difficult to remember also straight to the point.

Easy bolt-on for your blog name

Sometimes we might spend a lot of time trying to come up with a blog name but at the end discovered it was registered, in fact there are currently almost 2 Billion registered domains, it's kind of frustrating to type-in the domain name of your choice only to find that it's been registered, I have been there and so countless others.

And that’s where Easy bolt-on comes to play, they are words you could use before your actual blog name lets you have a  travel blog and you want to name it ‘Curious john’ and for some reason that blog name is already taken in this case you have two options either change your blog name (which could not be good)  or use an easy bolt-on while still keeping the words you have grown fond of and you can go with something like ‘simply curious john’ which is so simple and with this bolt-on words you can create different variations of blog name with a simple twist.
